Life expectancy of energy storage
Battery life is almost always directly proportional to the depth of discharge (DOD).
This means that the more a battery is discharged, the shorter its life.
Depth of Discharge (DoD) is a parameter that determines the level of discharge of the battery - DoD 0% means full charge, and DoD 100% means complete discharge.
*The number of charging cycles is an important parameter when choosing an energy storage unit because it translates into its lifetime. Each charging and discharging causes degradation of the cell, which translates into a decrease in capacity.
*The available energy or DOD per day cycle (charged and discharged each day) is usually determined by the manufacturer, and the cycle life in years is based on this value, among others.
*Battery life is dependent on a number of variables - operating temperature, discharge rate, or charging rate, so the performance and life of a system even from the same manufacturer can vary.
